1976 Daimler Double Six Avon-Stevens Convertible

1976 Daimler Double Six 2 Door Coupé Convertible 5.3 V12 Auto. Chassis 2F 1047 BW, Engine 7P 26301 SB. Signal Red with Black Leather and Black hood. Originally fitted with standard wheels with series 3 chrome trims, but now has chrome wire wheels.

This is one of the very rare Daimler Double Six variants of the Jaguar XJ12 Series II Two Door Coupés.

Coupés were only made from 1975 to 1977 and this one was converted when new by Avon-Stevens Coachworks of Warwick for her first Managing Director owner.

Total Daimler Double Six Coupé production was 397 and this is number 47.

It is believed that only three convertible versions were made.

The car is fitted with the wonderful Jaguar 5.3 litre fuel-injected V12 engine, with 3 speed Borg Warner automatic gearbox. She also has Power Steering, Servo Disc Brakes and Electric Windows. Very unusually for a Daimler V12, air conditioning was deleted from the specification by the first owner.

Recorded mileage is just over 52,000 from new. There is very little history at present with the car. The first Company Director owner kept her for six years and she was then sold on to the Works Manager. The third owner purchased her in May 1994. The earliest surviving MOT certificate dates from 1995, when the mileage was recorded as 49,366. By 2002 it had risen to 49,949 and by March 2007 is was 50,672! A multitude of problems cropped up over the months of July and August 2007 as the car was gradually reactivated. The fuel injectors have been a particular problem. The car has had extensive work (body and mechanics) carried out since then and now drives very well. Most of the chrome has been replaced with new over the last six months.
